Big Risk for Big Reward

We’ve been with Hinckley since noon. The team has been taking good care of him and he was comfortable.

In reviewing the films and his file last night, the oncology/surgical team felt like there was a chance to remove most of the tumor on his spinal cord. However, they do caution this is an intricate surgery – but it is his only chance.

After weighing the pros and cons, we decided they should proceed and attempt it.

However, they do know if they open him up and see that it is not feasible, or the surgery will not give him a fighting chance to live a quality life – to walk and be independent – then to go no further.

Stinker is going into surgery now.  It will be a couple of hours before we hear anything. According to the surgeon, best case is we don’t hear anything from her.  That means she is moving forward and feels like it is going well.

We met the other surgeons – they seem like a strong team and we feel good he is in the most capable hands.

I gave him the pets, hugs, kisses and whispered into his ear all the well wishes from his friends and family – both 2 and 4 legged. He is surrounded by love and I know he was wagging his tail inside (well, we all know he has always been selective about the tail wagging thing).  He did give me quite a talking to when I arrived so it was reassuring to know his spirit is still intact.

Will let you know as we do.
